Resistance Training

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

Type of physical exercise that is used to increase muscular fitness by working a muscle or a group of muscles against external resistance.

Muscles contract against external resistance to improve strength, power, hypertrophy, and/or endurance. External resistance can be provided by dumbbells, exercise tubing, your own body weight, blocks, water bottles, or anything else that causes the muscles to contract.

For long-term health advantages, maintenance measures are recommended. Resistance training is more commonly associated with a healthy lifestyle than with a specific therapeutic intervention.

There is currently no convincing evidence that any certain type of resistance training is the most helpful for addressing musculoskeletal conditions.

Resistance training is founded on the idea that when muscles are asked to do so, they will strive to overcome a resistance force. Your muscles develop stronger when you practice resistance training on a regular basis.

You may build your muscles in a variety of methods, whether at home or in the gym.

Resistance training comes in a variety of forms, including:

  1. Free weights Dumbbells and barbells are examples of traditional strength training implements.

  2. Weight machines equipment with adjustable seats and grips connected to either weights or hydraulics

  3. Medicine balls weighted balls

  4. Resistance bands These, like enormous rubber bands, create resistance when stretched. They are portable and may be used for a variety of workouts. Throughout a movement, the bands generate constant resistance.

  5. Your own bodyweight Squats, push-ups, and chin-ups can all be done with it. It is handy to use your own body weight, especially when traveling or at work.
